City cinema boosts city centre

Venlo, a city with a population of 100,000, no longer had a cinema.  A vacant lot next to a parking garage near the Parade was a perfect location for the city cinema.

The 4 auditoria have been shifted back to the rear of the plot as an enclosed volume. In the public area is the transparent foyer. Intimate corner seating and the bar have been located under the sloping floors of the auditoria, creating a cosy atmosphere. The Picardie (one of the older streets in Venlo) runs sharply upwards towards the entrance, owing to which the floor of the foyer sometimes lies under and over the street.

A lot of glass and beautiful, staggered brickwork make the building stand out in the street. It has become a real party building in the entertainment area of Venlo and gives a sharp boost to the Horeca cluster on the Parade and Picardie.

Interior design by Yvonne Rooding in collaboration with Henk Paijmans.
