De Balije

2002, Leidsche Rijn, Utrecht

distinctive and interrelated

For a plan for approximately 800 homes - De Balije in the Leidsche Rijn Utrecht – an urban development plan was produced by the architect Jo Crepain. Apart from Crepain, a further four architects were invited to develop part of this new residential area architecturally. We advised dividing the area into four neighbourhoods that would bear the signatures of the individual architects. We were allowed to develop one of these four neighbourhoods ourselves.

The great thing about this project is that four distinctive neighbourhoods were created that were still interrelated. The separate neighbourhoods are groupings of diverse types of buildings with the same formal language, use of materials and details.
