Covered Marina Kruchterplas

1996, Maasbracht

thinking out of the box

By far our most interesting study was that for Linssen Yachts. They wanted to cover a small gravel pit in Maasbracht as a marina for exclusive yachts.

A tent roof covering 30,000 m² and hanging on 12 poles was calculated for this by IPL in Radolfzell. As a breakwater we designed a hotel with apartments on a spit of land that also provided a shelter against the prevailing south wind. The plan would have been practicable if it had not been blocked by the new Rivers Act that was introduced after the floods of 1993 and 1995.

As it turned out, a marina for 200 yachts would have hindered current flow. Now, almost 20 years later, we still cherish this plan as an out-of-the-box study.
