MIM - Roermond, Engelman Architecten

MIM

1999, Roermond

A building that inextricably connects old and new. Strikingly beautiful and matching the historic surroundings of the market place.

The municipality wanted to give the façade of the former furnishing shop ‘Brons Eiken’ on the Markt in Roermond fresh allure – and Engelman Architecten made the winning design. The new building work was integrated with the historic building and built on top of medieval vaulted cellars. In the complex, seven exclusive apartments and two shops were constructed according to a modern design with strong, historical characteristics in terms of size, scale and use of materials. A striking feature is the combination of a zinc façade with aluminium decoration around the window frames. The elegant, sober façade details refer back to the past. It’s a building that the people of Roermond agree fits perfectly between the historic buildings on the market place.
