Papisland

2010, Middelburg

A comfortable and sustainable senior citizens’ complex

In Middelburg, a school building, a shopping centre and a care home are located along a green axis that runs through the nineteen-sixties Papisland housing estate. This is an estate in which living, working and shopping are neatly divided. The school building next to the care home was vacant and a new building with service apartments for the elderly was scheduled. The solution that we have worked out for Woonzorg Nederland consists of three residential blocks grouped around a shared inner area. 41 assisted living homes of various types have been developed in carefully devised, brick-built building volumes.

It is one of the first projects to use VBI FlexCasco, in which the installation for heating and cooling is integrated and connected to a heat pump. This is an extremely comfortable, safe and sustainable installation.
