Villa Roeroever - Roermond, Engelman Architecten

Villa Roeroever

1991, Roermond

the architect’s home

One of the most difficult tasks for an architect is to design his own home. In 1989, Maarten Engelman decided that he and his family would once again move into a new house. They moved from the village to the city of Roermond and found a beautiful plot of land on the banks of the river Roer, close to the city centre. The beautiful yet challenging location, the programme of requirements, the budget but, most of all, the architectural baggage, made this a pretty complex task. It became a very transparent house, both in terms of volume and in the relationship between interior and exterior. Looking out and in are the most important items in this home.
It was the children who paid us the biggest compliment. They thought that this move was one of their parents’ better ideas.
