Oslo is the fastest growing capital of Europe. It is home to countless museums, galleries, theatres, the royal palace, parks, public institutions, concert halls and the new Opera House located right at the harbour. Oslo is not just rich in its diverse cultural presence but is also known for its proximity to astounding nature. Large and easily accessible forest areas surround the city, and the pleasant waterways of the Oslo fjord has a strong presence in the city centre.
The Oslo National Academy of Arts i situated in the center of Oslo, in a neighbourhood called 'Grünerløkka', and close to the river 'Akerselva' which runs through Oslo from north to south. Along the river there are parklands and walking trails, but also remains of Oslo´s industrial history. Here behind the old industrial buildings you will discover numerous little cafés, restaurants and bars. Grünerløkka is also a popular shopping district, with original design shops, vintage and second-hand stores.
The Oslo National Academy of Arts consists of six departments: Design, Art and Craft, The Academy of Fine Art, The Academy of Dance, The Academy of Opera, and The Academy of Theatre. With an area of over 45,000 m2, this is one of Northern Europe's largest art and design facilities. The institution provides workshops arenas, galleries, studios, stages, and other facilities, and our faculty operates at a high international level.
